Punk rock.
When I think of punk rock I can't help but think dirty british men on torn t-shirts (or no shirts at all) with hair sticking up in some way. Tight pants, and chains. Just something pointy and dirty and of course anarchic. I study Politics and yet everytime we discuss realism and the word anarchy is brought up, I can't help but get a mental picture of a punk rock state instead of what the text book means...mass murder, corrupt leaders and probably some sort of nuclear warfare...Actually I guess our visions are the same just mine involves more music and liquor. Unless were talking about those punkers who want to send out a positive message with their music. But lets not get into that.
Musically punk rock is probably not the best genre, with its raw DIY, who cares style, but like all art who is to say it has rules that it should follow. In which case how can we even classify music then? Are all who fall under a certain category imitators? And is getting a record deal or gather fans who like you because of your new album, selling out?
I thought the point was to do it for the music, who cares what others think?
But then again we still need money to live, to pay our rent and bills, to feed ourselves, and buy our designer jeans.
But then again I guess that just isn't very punk.
